Researching Experiences

l Phosphorus recovery from wastewater by struvite formation and its safety evaluation for the application in agriculture

(1) The recovery and loss of phosphorus in human urine storage process was studied, and the struvite obtained was evidenced to be a potential and effective phosphorus fertilizer based on pot experiment. (2) The optimization of parameters on struvite crystallization in supernatant was carried out. (3) The adsorption and occurrence of antibiotic and heavy metals on struvite precipitated from digested supernatant are being processed.

l Mitigation of microplastic in environment and its toxic effect on organisms

(1) The distribution characteristics of microplastic in aquatic and soil environment were investigated, and the association of heavy metal and microplastic in soil were analyzed. (2) The mitigation and removal of microplastic in wastewater of WWTP was evaluated. The microplastic characteristics in washing machine wastewater and cosmetic products were studied, and the main source of microplastic in domestic wastewater was discussed. (3) The toxicity of nano / micro-plastic on fern and Daphinia Magana in aquatic environment was evaluated, and the adsorption of nano / micro-plastic and heavy metals and their synergetic toxicology on was discussed.

l Remediation of river sediment by adding granulated calcium nitrate

(1) Adding Ca(NO3)2 could effectively reduce the acid volatile sulphide, control the odor, and slightly reduce the P and TOC. (2) Application of granulated Ca(NO3)2 is feasible both at static and continuous condition. The release of heavy metal in sediment was not significant, and the variation of microbial community in sediment was analyzed to clarify the mechanism of granulated Ca(NO3)2.

l Growth response of microalgae and nutrients removal in the wastewater in response to carbon dioxide from flue gas

(1) The optimization of microalgal growth in wastewater accompanied with the injection of carbon dioxide was studied. (2) The growth of four microalgae species in effluent of WWTP and their nutrient utilization & lipid production was compared.
