RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research is focused on integrating physical, chemical, and biological principles, and employing innovative experimental methods from the molecular to the field scale, to develop mechanistic understanding of contaminant transport and transformation processes in groundwater systems. I am also interested in the development of innovative technologies for characterization and remediation of contaminated groundwater and soils. In addition, I do research on water and wastewater treatment as minor interests. Specific research interests include (1) inter-phase contaminant mass transfer behaviors in porous media; (2) coupled processes of contaminant mass transfer, transport and transformation; (3) enhanced abiotic transformation (e.g. chemical oxidation or reduction) and biotransformation processes in porous media; (4) colloid and nanoparticle transport; (5) surfactant-enhanced removal of nonaqueous phase liquids for contaminant source control and cleaning; (6) advanced oxidation processes for in situ groundwater remediation or water treatment; (7) risk assessment of groundwater quality impairment.
